Among tetanurans, spinosaurids are documented by material assigned to two species of Spinosaurus, namely Spinosaurus aegyptiacus [17–22] and Spinosaurus maroccanus . a genus of theropod dinosaur that lived in what now is North Africa during the upper Albian to upper Turonian stages of the Cretaceous period, It is known for the large dorsal spines on its back, which may have formed a large sail or hump. It was called “the spiny lizard” because it had a series of long spines on its back that formed a sail-like fin. Spinosaurus Maroccanus Spinosaurus ("Morocco's spined reptile") was a theropod dinosaur that existed in what is now North Africa, from the Albian to early Cenomanian stages of the Cretaceous Period, about 112 to 97 million years ago.
